Less than 10 Days

Back in the Spring I made such a big deal about the Pro Football HOF and the swag that was given out that I'm not doing the Akron Marathon any justice.  Needless to say, the race is less than 2 weeks away and I'm getting excited.  I've been training relentlessly and have been setting myself up to achieve my goal of beating 1:40;00.  Its been difficult but as early as this past weekend I set a goal for myself to run 8 miles in less than an hour.

To set this up, our church running crew met at the towpath in Barberton.  My goal during the Half Marathon is to run the first 8 to 9 miles at a 7:30 pace.  This is aggressive for me since I've never done that before.  Ever.  If I can go 8 to 9 at that pace I can then slow my pace to something more manageable for the last 4 to 5 miles around 7:45 to 7:50 and reach my goal.  The towpath isn't as hilly as running through my little town, but 8 miles is still 8 miles.  I have been building up to this run, did some speed training and intervals through the summer and running distance at my desired pace at or around 7:30 per mile pace.  Last week I told my crew I was going to try and go fast and wanted to break 1 hour for 8 miles.  Well, I did it.  First time I ever ran 8 miles in under an hour.  I finished at 59:51 (time to spare too).  I felt great afterward too.  That feeling that you are so 'jacked' up that you can keep going to the next one too.

The time is quickly approaching and the best part is that my wife signed up to run the 1st leg of the Relay.  We'll get to hang out at the start and at the finish.  I honestly think I'm more excited for her to run than she is.  I'm pray that this gets her so excited that she is going to want to run the half next year.  I'm not going to say anything until after the race and the experience.  Then I'll hold her to it.  I'm sneaky like that.

Anyway, we do get some cool stuff this year plus a bonus for the Marathon Runners and Half Marathon Runners...SOCKS!  Wearing the blue socks this fall and winter with pride!

I like the blue men's Half shirt.  It goes so well with all my other black and blue shirts.

By the way, I'm not sure if you hear, but LeBron James is back.

I can't wait to post pictures from the Freshwater Fit Club Pasta Dinner the night before, pre race and post race pictures.  Stay tune, stay true and stay strong.

1 Thessalonians 5:11 - Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.

God bless,
Coach Bill
